THE LULLABY

I believe that a long history of conflict has caused the Vietnamese to be a very emotional, very tragic people. This, ultimately, is reflected in their music and poetry. The lullaby often times mixes hope and despair to express the deep love between parent and child. I wanted this aspect of Vietnamese culture to resonate throughout the film.

The last poem in the film is actually something that I wrote, constructed from my research of Vietnamese poetry and lyrics. If the documentary sequence in the beginning of the film served as the Prologue, then it would be fair to say that this poem is the Epilogue.
