Long Le, Director of International Initiatives Global Studies Program University of Houston
Panelist: Discussion 2 (Challenges of the Next Generation)
Long Le pioneers a new Global Studies Program under the Bauer College of Business. His primary teaching in this area is the politics of globalization.
He is also a lecturer and coordinator for the Vietnamese Studies courses at the University of Houston. He is a part of a team made up of college students and community activists working to establish a Vietnamese Studies Program with a minor. Thus far, there are five Vietnamese language courses and four Vietnamese culture, history and politics courses (in English) offered at the campus. The development of this program will be highlighted in a publication by Harvard Civil Rights Project on "Southeast Asian American Advocacy for Educational Success."
Le strongly believes in community-service learning and has involved his students in becoming mentors to Asian at-risk students at the Houston Independent School District, documenting the stories of Vietnamese Katrina evacuees, and surveying the history and growth of the Vietnamese business community in southwest Houston.
He earned his BAs in political science and history and a minor in African studies from the University of Delaware. He earned his Ph.D. in political science from University of Houston. He was formerly an Assistant Professor of Political Science at California State University – Bakersfield. |
